Is 2500 shots heavy usage for a DSLR (Olympus PEN E-PL2)?
Thanks, George Y. So basically, 2500 shots are too many, I should probably stretch out 100$ + and buy it new. Right?
No, 2500 is such a low shutter count for a used camera that I would be skeptical. Keep in mind that there will be shutter actuations before it is even sold new, in the box, due to quality control checks. It's entirely possible that the user just didn't like the camera and could not return it, but I'd definitely ask why it's being sold and ask to see the debug screen that tells the shutter count (it requires a hidden combination of button strokes on the Monitor Brightness menu screen and is not simply accessible within the menu). If they cannot show you the screen, then they do not know the shutter count. If they can, then it's actually a decent number -- enough actuations for most manufacturing flaws in the shutter and electronics to have been revealed already, but not so many that the camera is anywhere near the end of its life.
Look at the condition of the body. Does the camera appear to be in good condition? Are there any wear marks? Do all the functions work properly? Does the flash fire, is the meter accurate, do the lenses focus properly? If so, then it's probably in good enough condition. Is the $100 worth the risk of buying a used camera with no warranty (to me, at that price, it would be, but to some people it's simply not worth the risk).
As an aside, and I really don't intend to sound like a condescending know-it-all gear snob, but the PEN series are not DSLRs because they lack a mirror or optical viewfinder. Just helps avoid confusion -- the camera's image quality is still up to snuff and will deliver awe-inspiring images in the right hands.
