plz help for marine aquarium set up?
hi friends ,,,i wanna set up a marine coral aquarium ,,,plz tell me te basics as in fresh water for plantation we only have to buy plants and put them in the aquarium but in case of coral what can i do first so that i can grow corals or i have to buy seeds or other thing,,,,,,,,,,also tell me some small size chichlids or territorial fishes which are easily available,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
thnks.............
Stay away from corals for four or five years, and learn from the mistakes your going to make caring for marine fish and invertebrates.
To begin with, marine tanks should be as large as your pocket book, and space will allow. Unlike fresh water set-ups small saltwater tanks (less than 30 gallons) can be a problem for the novice marine aquarist. In these small tanks water quality will deteriorate in a matter of an hour or so if something goes wrong to upset the balance of the tank (over feeding, a sick or dead tank member, electrical power loss, excessive algae, etc, etc.)
After determining what you're going to put in your tank, and selecting the filtration, and lighting system that will best support your choices you'll be ready to cycle up your tank - which can take a month or so, if you do it correctly. Unfortunately cycling up a saltwater tank is a lot more involved than cycling up a fresh water tank. Initially, saltwater set-ups are very labor intensive, but after the tank finds its balance the maintenance will be much less than a fresh water set-up.
But before you do anything I would suggest you take the time to research what your about to get into. Read a book, talk to your local tropical fish store owner, join a salt water fish group, and find out more about this expensive hobby.
